Shashank Joshi is The Economist’ s defence editor. Prior to joining The Economist in 2018, he served as Senior Research Fellow at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) and Research Associate at Oxford University’s Changing Character of War Programme. He also serves as a Senior Visiting Fellow at the Department of War Studies , King's College London. He holds degrees from Cambridge and Harvard, where he served as a Kennedy Scholar from Britain to the United States. He has written widely on defence-related artificial intelligence and cyber issues and in 2023 he conducted the first ever interview with the commander of Britain's National Cyber Force.
